03-06 Mercedes CLK500 Transmission Mount
Our Mercedes CLK500 transmission mount is a direct replacement for a worn/sagging factory transmission mount. While a bad transmission mount does not have the obvious signs of failure that most other parts have, when it does go bad it can cause other problems both immediate and long term. The easiest way to tell if your transmission mount is bad is to make sure the cross-shaft is in the center of the housing. A sagging transmission mount will have the cross-shaft that bolts to the transmission toward the lower part of the housing.
The main purpose of the Mercedes CLK500 transmission mount is to hold the rear of the transmission at the proper height. Maintaining proper transmission height ensures the drive shaft is in correct alignment. Misalignment in driveshaft angles can cause premature wear on driveshaft couplers and emit high frequency vibrations.
We have designed this Mercedes CLK500 transmission mount a little differently than the factory did. The factory used two rubber areas at about 4 and 8 o’clock positions with air gap directly under the cross-shaft. Our design uses a polyurethane doughnut that completely surrounds our cross-shaft. In addition, polyurethane is a much better material for longevity but sometimes can transfer more NVH (noise, vibration, harshness). To combat the NVH transfer, we have used a lower durometer polyurethane than most of our other products and we have decreased the diameter of the cross-shaft to lower the surface area. These two characteristics have helped us create a stronger transmission mount for your Mercedes with factory like NVH levels.
